Thanks to demand, online engineering programs continue to multiply. To give students the hands-on experience required in the field, many universities are developing hybrid programs: theoretical courses are taken online, but on=site labs, internships and/or co-ops are required in order to graduate.
Some schools also provide online degree completion programs. Students can finish their engineering coursework online or add courses to turn an associate’s degree into a BS in Engineering.
If you’re interested in 100% online programs, the master’s degree is the most common offering. This is an increasingly popular choice for working engineers who already have significant field experience.

The aerospace engineering program focuses on aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, and flight mechanics, while the ocean engineering program places an emphasis on naval ship design.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute offers online Master of Science (MS) and graduate certificate programs in the following: electrical and computer engineering, environmental engineering, and fire protection engineering. The MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering degree has specializations in analog design, radio and microwave engineering, power systems engineering, digital design, and systems engineering. Online MS degrees are also offered in mechanical and in robotics engineering. Students accepted to the MS in Mechanical Engineering program specialize in one of these fields: aerospace, structures and materials, fluid engineering, dynamics and control, and design and manufacturing. Additional graduate certificates are offered online in nuclear science and engineering, power systems engineering, and systems engineering. A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Systems Engineering is available online as well.
